Reflections from our Deputy Principal

I love the office space I work in every day! Not only does it provide comfortable spaces for me to stand and work, sit and work and collaborate and meet with people around a table, but best of all I can see the school yard. Often, as students walk by, they wave in greeting and during recess and lunch I enjoy the sounds of happy young people socialising. I can see younger students in the sand play area, I hear and sometimes see handball games in the undercover area and I hear older students chatting on the verandah.

This makes me think about the new spaces we are planning for our Parkerville campus. It won’t be long now and we will find ourselves planning for the furniture we would like, and students will be helping design the interiors of the learning areas.

We are also thinking about and planning for continued improvements to the learning spaces in our Mundaring campus. Today I took some visitors around the school and they were so impressed by the way they could go into different learning spaces and there was no interruption to student learning. The Year 5 group just carried on with their presentations. Highly engaged students are ‘just getting on with it’ all over the campus. Yesterday I enjoyed some time in Pre-Primary with students telling me all about the   countries they have studied.

Today I have visited the Year 9 groups as they have moved through Art, Design Technology and Food Technology completing the challenge of the day. Tomorrow they will face a Science challenge and on Friday it’s a Humanities challenge. Year 8 students headed off for camp, Years 6 and 7 students are travelling to Sydney. From my window I see Year 1 headed for the library.

Thank you to all the teachers and staff who support learning on campus. Thank you to parents who support learning from home and by giving time to the school so we can have a learning rich environment here. I wish you all an enjoyable holiday – with a special long holiday for Mrs Nolan, Mrs Thirley and Mrs Wilson who will enjoy their Long Service Leave.
