Mundaring Christian College would like to advertise its Classics Programme for 2019. The Classics Enrichment Elective will be superseding current electives: Myths & Legends and Poetry & Literature.
“The Classics program is the perfect antidote to our superficial society where there is seldom reflection on the deeper questions of life. By wrestling with the history of ideas, MCC students have the chance to be much better prepared for the challenges their generation faces.” Mr Rod McNeill (Principal)
The Mundaring Christian College Classics student is one who has been sharpened by a rigorous community-based culture of scholarship, creativity and achievement. Students reflect the collective wisdom of their classical Christian heritage, enabling them for leadership and influence. In Classics, students are provided with challenging academic extension.
They learn the content required to understand the world by reading and interpreting ‘the best that has been thought and said’ - as Matthew Arnold put it. Using a Socratic teaching style, complemented by the ancient tools of logic and rhetoric; students begin to grapple with the great questions of existence. In doing so they equip themselves with highly advanced English reading, comprehension and writing skills, as well as self-discipline and a spirit of adventure.
Most importantly, it is our hope at Mundaring Christian College, that Classics students will encounter Christ and be able to live wise, productive lives in the service of God and others.
