Anders being awarded his prize at the MCC College Assembly from Mr BroughtonWhat is seen as the highest student fine woodworking award in the State was awarded to one of Mr Broughton’s Design Technology and Enterprise students. The “Out Of The Woods” exhibition is held each year as part of the Perth Wood Show at the Claremont Showgrounds. It showcases work from artists and craftsmen from all over the country of very high calibre. The student section is open to any school to enter. It is a prize awarding, non-acquisitive exhibition that has participants from schools that could be seen as having an obvious advantage through their facilities, reputation and budget.

MCC has managed to catch the judges attention in previous years but were unanimous in deciding Year 9 student Anders Ohman’s Ukulele as the strongest entrant of 2014, giving him first place. He received an amazing trophy made by the Fine Woodworkers Association and a prize of $80.00.

The ukulele project is in its third year of production we now make them from traditional materials such as maple and plantation mahogany. The model incubuses many elementary yet challenging engineering calculations and some quite advanced processes.

This is a wonderful result by Anders. Design Technology and Enterprise is perhaps the subject that best applies what is learnt in all subject areas and therefore a good reason for rejoicing.
