Last week I took a group of five teachers to a Professional Development workshop in Floreat, hosted by the Association of Independent Schools WA (AISWA).
The workshop explained and applied scientific research into what works in improving student learning. These are called ‘High Impact Teaching Strategies’ (HITS). It is good to know that our teachers continue to learn about the best ways to teach your children and improve their practice.
MCC will be partnering with AISWA and Dr. Tim McDonald, educational expert, previous CEO of Catholic Ed. WA and past board member of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Dr McDonald will be visiting MCC and watching our teachers teach. He will be providing feedback to teachers about their teaching based on the scientific research into HITS.
High Impact Teaching Strategies aren’t novel or faddish, they are clinically proven - but it’s about consistency and teachers implementing them until HITS become habits, thereby ensuring that they become master teachers. We know that our teachers are exceptional and already do a very good job, but all teachers have the ability to improve on what they know and at MCC we are committed to providing those opportunities.
