Students and staff at MCC have embraced the Scraps2soil program.
Students and staff have been putting the food scraps from their lunch, recess, canteen and cooking classes into our food scrap buckets which are dotted around the school.
In just one term, we prevented 160kg of food waste from going into landfill by composting it along with other organics from around the school like sawdust from D&T and shredded paper from Admin.
We created 3 full bins of nutrient rich compost which has been dug back into our veggie gardens.
Last term, the year 9 girls regularly collected the buckets, weighed them and emptied them into the compost bin. This term it’s the year 9 boys’ turn to take charge.
