Our brand new Secondary Campus in Parkerville opened its’ doors on the 1st of February.
Two hundred eager students, their parents and the staff of Mundaring Christian College explored the $10m building on a 110 acre site in Parkerville and gathered in the building’s shared learning space.
“I want to welcome everyone to stage one of your new school,” said Mundaring Christian College Principal, Mr. Rod McNeill.
“All of the thought, planning and hard work we have done in building this campus reflects our value of you as students.
“The design and features we have built in the first stage of this school are designed to bring out the best in your learning,” he said.
The building, designed by Broderick Architects, incorporates the latest research in learning space design and will encourage students’ creativity as they graduate to secondary years from the existing Primary Campus.
Stage one of the campus features an industrial kitchen, art studio, workshop, design and ICT studio, cutting edge science laboratory and conference room, as well as dedicated classrooms.
The campus has been deliberately designed to capture natural light, use space efficiently to maximise cooling, and provides a picturesque view into the Mundaring Hills.
“I have never seen a design like this before”, said Chelsea, a Year 11 School Captain.
“Having a more relaxed environment is more inviting to learn, which is really exciting,” she said.
Mr McNeill added that “Many have wondered how we will get students to work when the view is there”.
“It is a view that invites you to look up. It is a considered and comfortable place, where you can see each other at work and cooperate and encourage each other to achieve your best,” he said.
“This is a good school, in a wonderful location, and we look forward to learning together,” concluded Mr McNeill.
