There are exciting things happening in the Primary Sport program at Mundaring Christian College!
Before School: Our Before School athletics program has been a success with many students braving the cold mornings in order to participate in a fun environment followed by an excellent breakfast. Beginning next Wednesday (16 August) and continuing for a four-week block, we have invited IAAF Kids Athletics Instructor Nikki Carvahlo, to conduct the program with some fun, extra events that our students normally don’t do.
Mrs Carvahlo has the credentials and expertise needed to aid our students and to cater to their varying ability levels. Students will get the chance to learn how to hurdle, use correct sprinting techniques and of course continue with their long jump, shot put and turbo javelin training. We would like to encourage students from Pre-Primary to Year Six to join us every Wednesday morning from 7:00 a.m. followed by a healthy and hearty breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Once again we deeply thank all the parents who help set up the breakfast and serve our hungry athletes after training. It is so well organised and run that I am proud to be a part of this community in the hills. Look forward to seeing you Wednesday morning!
After School: The After School sport program continues to be a success this term with Coach Phil Croot’s specialised basketball program leading the way. Students in Year Two to Six have been working hard and having lots of fun, developing the skills and techniques to help them play a higher standard of basketball. We also have an exciting Gymnastics program starting Friday 18 August and running for four weeks. We have already received lots of interest and numbers are now full. Amazing to see how our children get things in on time when they are interested . Looking forward to seeing you all there!
On Friday 28 July, Mundaring took down basketballers from Year Five and Six to compete in the WACSSA Interschool Basketball Carnival. The atmosphere at the centre was amazing with more schools than ever participating in this popular event. We fielded four separate teams; Year Five girls, Year Five boys, Year Six girls and Year Six boys. All of our students participated with passion and skill. Both boys teams finished Fifth but continued to improve as the tournament went along. Year Six girls finished a very commendable Third in a tough group and showed us what teamwork and commitment can overcome. Finally, our Year Five girls went all the way and grabbed the championship in an exciting final! Their First Place achievement in another tough group was an outstanding effort and a credit to Coaches Phil Croot and Malena Peackock. The girls have hung up the championship flag in their classroom as a memento to what hard work, team unity and perseverance can do. We are so proud of all the teams and thankful that we can be part of a great community here in the hills. Thank you to Miss P, Mrs Barkwill, Mrs Peacock, Coach Croot and for all the other parents who came down to support our teams. Well done Mundaring!
