Year 11 student Ella D recently participated in the Taste of the Future competition on Thursday 28 July.
Ella was shortlisted to a group of ten, for her essay on why she wanted to be a chef, and a photo of a dish she created.
She received expert coaching from Chef Rob Do Carmo, previous head chef of West End Deli and Ella's current RTO. Chef Do Carmo works alongside Mrs Edwards teaching students, including Ella, as they complete their Certificate Three in Hospitality through the Trade Training Centre.
Ella's task was to cook a dish based on the feature protein, a chicken maryland.
Ella boned out the chicken, made a delicious filling of chorizio and chicken filling, made her own hand-made pasta and served with the a kale and parsley oil and sherry vinegar sauce.
There was a time limit of one hour and 45 minutes to complete this task, including plating.
It was a rewarding experience for Ella when she placed 5th! She won an individual prize of $200, and $1000 for Mundaring Christian College's hospitality program.
Her award was presented by three very well-known chefs from the industry.
Well done Ella!
