On Thursday 30th May, a group of Year 9 and 10 students studying Indonesian went on an excursion.
The excursion was to go to the University of WA (UWA) to attend a forum about Languages for My Future.
Students were well behaved. Students really enjoyed the talk by the presenters as well as the panel members. Panel members were current students from UWA and Murdoch University.
The forum was about how learning Languages can give them the 10% LOTE bonus towards their ATAR score as well as a career pathway combined with other degrees at University. We also listened to stories from the current students on their in-country experiences and what inspired these students to continue learning Languages other than English.
The talk was inspiring as the majority of the Year 9 and 10 students said that they will either continue studying Indonesian or another language at university, once they leave school. Some even encourage their peers to study Indonesian.
We went to look around the university and took some photos.
After the talk, we went to an Indonesian restaurant called Dapur Van Java. At the restaurant, students had the opportunity to practice their Indonesian by ordering their food and describing the taste of their food in Indonesian.
The food was so yummy, and the service was amazing. The Ayam Goreng Kremes was the favourite among other cuisines. This, however, wasn’t the most challenging part of the day for students. The majority found it harder to eat their lunch with a fork and spoon, rather than a fork and knife.
All in all, it was a great day and an educational experience for students.
