Think of yourself as a sponge. Are you filling yourself with positive or negative thoughts? 

It has been encouraging to see how our staff have really gotten behind the YCDI program by applying the weekly topics into assemblies, class items, and devotions.

At our most recent Primary assembly, Mr Rod McNeill (School Principal) addressed students and guests around the topic of positive thinking.

Mr McNeill quotes;

"What's inside us i.e. the words we speak over ourselves and the thoughts we have about ourselves, is what comes out of us i.e. in the way be behave and speak to others."

Mr McNeill went onto to say that;

"It is important to treat people the way we want to be treated and love others the way we want to be loved." This comes back to how we then think about and speak to ourselves.

On Wednesday, 6 March, our Year 1s and 2s learnt how to practice mindfulness. Students learned how to understand that they can use 'positive self-talk' to help themselves calm down and solve problems. The students also learned to understand that using positive self-talk leads them to have 'green light feelings' instead of 'red light feelings'.

Mrs Jasmyn Rullo writes:

"We started with a game of snakes and ladders. I was being like 'Cathy Crumble' who always crumbles when she gets upset/worried/mad. And I chose a student, Leon, to be like 'Rosie Resilience' who knows how to stay calm and bounce back. Afterward, we practised some 'mindfulness' by doing the deep breathing exercise and then the finger knitting. 'Mindfulness' is when you do something easy and it helps to take your mind off your problems. It's a wonderful distraction and is recommended as a resilience strategy. However, because it was the Year 1/2 first time with finger knitting, it wasn't easy at all and it turned out to be an opportunity to practise their resilience!"

It was encouraging to see all students give the tasks a go and even step in to help one another when they heard or saw each other struggling.
