Chandeliers, polished floors, a marble staircase and gold elevators! This is what we first saw when we entered Parliament House.
On Friday the 9th of November, the student leaders: Chloe.G, Amelie, Alyssa, Lalia, Helena, Jamie, Tom and Brendan, had lunch with Matthew Hughes (federal member for Kalamunda). It was an exciting day, but it was quite nerve-racking being in such a fancy place with a well-known politician.
Mr Hughes took us on a brief tour upon arrival, then we had lunch. We had a delicious three course meal which consisted of a variety of options that everybody could choose from.
We learnt about Mr Hughes' previous job at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School as a teacher and principal, and his passion for the future of schools. He explained the importance of pastoral care, which as leaders of the school made us feel valuable.
We feel privileged for meeting Mr Hughes and experiencing such a great day.
