Focus on LEARNING
In Secondary Years
The Secondary years learning program works in partnership with parents to enable students to transition from childhood to adulthood. Our philosophy of teaching and learning involves the College community collaborating to ensure the following conditions for student learning:
- Classes are vibrant learning environments where all students are supported and encouraged to pursue personal excellence.
- Learning for understanding, learning to be more creative problem solvers and learning as a community are core aspects of all learning experiences provided for students and teachers.
- Both teachers and students are encouraged to commit to being lifelong learners.
Our aim is to provide all students with opportunities to develop their understanding of the relationship between knowledge and power.
We seek to ensure that our students know more about the world (not limit their understanding and experience of the world to the corners we inhabit and those parts which we most closely interact with). To this end we acknowledge the value of the strands of the Australian Curriculum that mandate that we explore our relationship with Asia, foreground the experience of Aboriginal Australians and explore sustainability. Through the content we offer, we seek to provide students every opportunity to understand their place in a global context that they might be not only responsible and mature Australian citizens but that they may operate effectively as members of a global community too.
We believe that paying close attention to learning environments, as well as the learning tools available to students is worthy of our consideration. We seek to extend our understandings of how students learn so that we can ensure that in the limited face-to-face time available to us to deliver curriculum, we can maximize student learning, enabling each student to achieve successful outcomes.
