Two students selected for the State Basketball Performance Program

The MCC Specialist Basketball Program continues to thrive with classes from Year 1 to Year 10 in full swing for 2022. With over 250 students from Primary and Secondary involved, the school is growing a strong and skilled cohort of basketballers, ready to compete against the best school basketball programs in Perth.

Unfortunately, this year the Term 1 ACC competition for our junior and senior teams did not go ahead due to COVID concerns. We are hopeful that there will be an opportunity for the competition to go ahead in Term 3. We will be sending teams to the WACCSA Primary Carnival in August and the Elite Primary and Secondary Carnivals in Term 4.

We are celebrating the selection of two of our MCC basketballers to the State Performance Program. Alyssa B. (U16 WA Metro Girls) and Kye B. (U16 WA Metro Boys) participated in a grueling selection schedule against the best basketballers in the state for their age group. Selection in the SPP gives them the opportunity to play in the upcoming U16 National Championships in July (at Warwick Stadium in Perth). We are extremely proud of the achievements of Alyssa and Kye and wish them all the best in selection for the upcoming championships.

The Winter Domestic Season has kicked off this term at Hills Raiders. Once again the MCC Mustangs have a strong showing in all age groups with 23 teams participating. The domestic program is undergoing some changes and development as the MCC Basketball Academy moves into the next phase of its strategic plan. This includes plans to shift the emphasis more fully to player development at the school through the expansion of the Specialist Basketball program

Coach Phil Croot is encouraging parents who are interested in hearing about the strategic plans and having some input to the discussion to attend one of the following Focus Group sessions. These sessions were originally planned for Term 1 but were postponed due to COVID restrictions on public meetings.

All sessions will be held in the Conference Room at the MCC Primary Campus.

Session 1: 9 am to 10 am on Saturday 21st May
Session 2: 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm on Wednesday 25th May
Session 3: 9 am to 10 am on Saturday 28th May
