West Coast Eagle Elijah Hewett Inspires Students at MCC

MCC students were treated to a special visit from West Coast Eagles player Elijah Hewett, who spent Wednesday morning encouraging and inspiring students across the College.

Elijah began the day with a Q&A session at assembly, where he shared insights into his journey as a professional AFL player and how his Christian faith keeps him grounded through the highs and lows of elite sport. Students enjoyed hearing about his experiences on and off the field, as well as his perspective on handling pressure and finding purpose beyond football.

Following the assembly, Elijah met with the Year 7 Living Well and Effective Learning classes to explore the concept of the “Learning Pit”—the idea that real growth comes through challenge, struggle, and persistence. He encouraged students to keep pushing when things feel tough, linking the Learning Pit to his faith and resilience as an athlete.

To finish the morning, Elijah joined the Year 8 students during their Physical Education session, offering footy tips and enjoying a friendly kick on the Parkerville oval.

It was a memorable visit that highlighted the importance of perseverance, character, and faith — both in the classroom and beyond.
