Year 10 Debaters Take on the Challenge at WADL Competition

Some Year 10 Debating Elective students have been competing in the WADL Schools Debating Competition at Mount Lawley Senior High on Thursday evenings this term. This competition runs throughout semester one and allows students to put their public speaking, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills to the test.

Our students have done an outstanding job in the first two rounds, showcasing their speaking and rebuttal skills, as they argued in favour of teacher bonus pay linked to student performance in round one and debated in opposition to the rise in social media apps designed for tracking and sharing individuals’ participation in their hobbies.

The experience has been both enjoyable and educational as our students continue to gain valuable insights into the structure of formal debating and how to handle impromptu rebuttals with confidence.  Special thanks to the debating staff, Miss Van Bentum, Mr Tibbits and Mr Price, for taking students to these evening debates.

“I enjoyed seeing so many other schools and students participate in debating. Next time, I want to be even better prepared and improve our teamwork. I was a bit nervous, but I think we did really well!” – Year 10 debating student.
