Year 9 Students Explore Careers at Murdoch University
In Week 7, our Year 9 students had the exciting opportunity to step into the world of higher education and immerse themselves in career-taster workshops at Murdoch University. The organisers designed the day to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and open students’ eyes to the diverse career pathways available.
Students started the day with a lecture about career options and the importance of gathering information to make informed decisions. They then engaged in three dynamic workshops:
English & Creative Writing
In the English and Creative Writing workshop, students participated in an activity to create their own world and the elements within it. They were encouraged to let their imaginations soar as they explored the prosperous opportunities available in literary studies and creative industries.
Systems Medicine
The Systems Medicine workshop introduced students to the cutting-edge world of health sciences. They learned how systems medicine integrates biology, technology, and data to tackle some of our most pressing health challenges. This session included an interactive quiz that tested their knowledge of the different types of science portrayed in movies.
Screen Production & Sound
Lights, camera, action! In this workshop, students dived into the exciting realm of screen production and sound design. They explored the tools and techniques used in post-production sound and gained insight into the behind-the-scenes magic of film and media creation.
Lunch break provided a chance to relax and soak in the university atmosphere. Students enjoyed lunch in the open spaces on campus, lounging on beanbags while mingling with their peers and taking in the vibrant surroundings.
Students ended the day with a guided tour of the campus. For many, it was an eye-opening experience reinforcing the importance of thoughtful subject choices as they move toward senior school and beyond.
Thank you to Murdoch University for hosting our students and the university students who facilitated such inspiring workshops. We look forward to seeing how these experiences shape our students’ career journeys!
